20 IIITs established under PPP have not yet begun dual degree courses: Minister of Human Resources

NEW DELHI: Twenty IIITs established under the Public-Private Partnership have not yet introduced dual degree courses since their infrastructure is under development, the Union's Human Rights Minister, 'Nishank' reported. Lok sabha Monday.

Answering a question of whether the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) propose introducing dual degree courses in view of market demand, 'Nishank' informed the Chamber that four IIITs of central financing in Allahabad, Gwalior, Jabalpur and they are already offering double degrees.

In the 20 IIITs established under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode and a centrally funded IIIT in Andhra Pradesh He said that the infrastructure is in the development stage and, therefore, cannot currently introduce dual degree courses.

The Board of Governors of these institutes is empowered to start new courses, including double degree courses, he said.
