Running friends enjoy the winter run in Borivali National Park
It is the marathon season and recently more than 1000 runners participated in the Winter Run 2019 , celebrated recently.
Organized by the Running Buddies training community in the Borivali National Park , the event saw many of the community of runners who not only train together, but also motivate each other.
Enthusiastic runners were seen running and enjoying being part of the group race.
One of the participants, Dheeraj Gupta, founder and CEO of a Wadapav chain, shared: “It was a fabulous race. It is important to maintain the balance between work and life, and this was a great opportunity to present the benefits of running to the whole team. When you run as a group, group dynamics encourages those who don't want to run. It is camaraderie. I have been training with career partners for a year and it focuses on the central physical state, helping you get fit just by running.
Another participant said: This was my first marathon experience. Everyone's positive encouragement made me join the list of running enthusiasts. We are all food lovers, and we know that to enjoy a good meal, you first have to practice fitness.
The runner community, headed by Naazmin Zaffar, rewards the winners from time to time so that the fun of running grows and more and more. She believes that the idea is that people get the benefits of free professional training.
Naazmin, herself an experienced ultra- marathon runner, is well known in the running community. She is supported by Jeetu, Rahul and Sumit, whose coaching have taken few at next-level in athletics. Naazmin and the team use all their skills and experience to transform people from walkers to serious runners. The spirit which brings people together is their love for running.
After completing the run, Naazmin said, “Fitness grows on you. Running is something that anyone can do. A meal of wada pav sponsored by a wada pav chain, after the marathon , worked well for our runners. It has good carbs.”
The venue for the winter run remained the Borivali National Park , which has always been a weekend long run practice ground for the running buddies. It takes about three to four months to plan every single detail of the run, organizing it to perfection based only on the experience of attending such events in India and globally. The objective for this run with limited number of participations is not to make money but being sensitive to the environment of the National Park; the intent is to encourage running.
