Acting in movies was never my game plan: Adil Hussain

Adil Hussain was in Goa for IFFI, Goa Times reached him to talk quickly

Although he graduated from theater schools in India and London, and has an impressive repertoire on stage, he entered the film industry about a decade ago, is it a conscious choice? What led you to make the change?

Honestly, they forced me to do it (laughs). No, actually, I never thought I'd act in movies, that was never in the game plan. It just happened that Anjan Das , my friend was directing a movie and wanted me to act, so I accepted.

After graduating from London, he chose to go to Pondicherry and live in the Ashram of Sri Aurobindo, why? NI went because my guru, Shaupon Boshu, was there and wanted to learn more about him.

You have acted in several roles, which do you consider to be the most difficult so far?

I think that should be the role I played in Sunrise, it's a marathi movie about a father whose daughter was kidnapped at the age of ten and he is looking for her. I couldn't find anything that could relate to such experience in my life. I have a son and would know how to react if I had lost him. But a daughter is a different experience. In addition, my character's wife had also gone crazy with sadness. That was a difficult role to fulfill.

With the kind of movies that are being made now, what is your opinion about Indian cinema?

Well, Indian cinema had a great time with directors like Guru Dutt, and then the 80s and 90s came and all the masala movies what you call it. Now, again, he is in a very good phase with all the directors of the new era taking him to greater heights.

How has your experience been so far at IFFI? Are you eager to see some movies?

My experience is that everything was very efficient, there were no delays. Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch any movies this year because I have a filming schedule to join.

So what are you currently working on?

Right now I am part of the Star Trek: Discovery web series whose filming is underway.

Could you give us an idea of what your role is?

I do not have the freedom to speak anything about it.
