PMO wants NHs to be classified in quality, safety
NEW DELHI: The prime minister's office () has instructed the road transport ministry to formulate and implement a policy for the classification of quality and safety of the use of automated data collection and establish a mechanism to ensure that a test is conducted Compulsory computer management in each center throughout the country.
The road transport ministry has been asked to implement these while continuing with its current road construction rate. The PMO instructions came recently when PM Modi presided over the secretaries review meeting of the transport sectors. The objective of raising Rs 12,000 million rupees has also been set by monetizing projects completed during 2020-21 and building 11,000 km in the same period of time.
The safety classification and the evaluation of the driving quality of the NH have been the two main unfinished tasks of the ministry of road transport and these become important considering that the number of people killed in NH increased from 47,649 in 2014 to 54,046 last year. Almost 36% of all deaths of 1.51 lakh took place in NHs.
