Six more airports can be privatized
NEW DELHI: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has recommended that the Center privatize airports in Amritsar , Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Raipur and Trichy, said a senior government official.
The recommendation came when the central government has already privatized the airports of Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati for the operation, management and development through the public-private partnership (PPP) model in February this year.
“As six airports have already been privatized in February this year, the AAI in its board meeting on September 5 decided to privatize six more airports: Amritsar, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Indore, Raipur and Trichy,” the official said. “Once the board took this decision, the recommendation was sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation,” the official added. The AAI owns and manages more than 100 airports across the country.
