MP police officers lokayukta book five officers of the IAS

UJJAIN: Police on Saturday recorded a case against former DGP Arun Gurtu, five IAS officers and another 10 for alleged irregularities in the assignment and maintenance of the airstrip in Ujjain .

After receiving a complaint, the Lokayukta police conducted a preliminary investigation, after which it was registered on Saturday under Section 7 of the Corruption Prevention Act and 120B of IPC against five officers who served as district collectors between 2006 and 2019, three time executive engineers and eight directors of Yash Airways, Lokayukta DGP Anil Kumar said.

However, Gurtu has denied any wrongdoing. In 2006, Datana airstrip in Ujjain was given on a monthly lease of Rs 1.5 lakh to Yash Airways Limited under 25 conditions for seven years. The company allegedly deposited the lease amount only for the first year.

The complaint says that the company suspended work in 2013 and remained closed until 2016. The then district collector sent a proposal for the renewal of Rs 2.66 million to the state government, which was sanctioned. The collector did not cancel the contract with Yash Airways before submitting the proposal to the government, which caused financial losses to the treasury, says the complaint.
