Representation of sexuality in 'Dostana 2' not worthwhile, cartoonish: Karan Johar

Filmmaker Karan Johar on Sunday he said there has been an evolution in the representation of sexuality in Bollywood and his next film, 'Dostana 2' will treat him with maximum sensitivity. The film is a 2008 sequel to 'Dostana', which tells the story of two men who pretend to be gay to share an apartment with a girl they finally fall in love with.

The new features of the movie Kartik Aaryan , Janhvi Kapoor and the debutant Lakshya.

The filmmaker said that 'Dostana' was a conversation starter, so there was a representation of sexuality that was caricatural, even in a cinema that I had produced, but today I would not do that.

The evolution is from one 'Dostana' to the other. 'Dostana' that was launched in 2008 and the 'Dostana 2' that will be launched in 2020, you will see that the representation is accurate, not caricatural and punctual, speaking of sexuality in a way that will not make you shiver while watching it.

So therein lies the fact that in the last 12 years, there has been a solid change in the way we represent homosexual characters. Even in 'Kapoor&Sons' and the way it is represented, he said.

At the session titled 'Ten things men must change about Bollywood', the filmmaker was asked how does he look at item numbers, including the ones in his films and Johar said he doesn't feel he did the right thing at that point of time with inclusion of such tracks.

I didn't think there would be repercussions ... Cinema is such an impressionable medium. They were things you didn't think about and then, when they tell you, you realize that they are true, you have to apologize to society for the possible scarring as a result of what you offered.

I cannot recover those songs that I put in the cinema that have objectified women, but I can say with certainty that I will not do it again, he added.
