Hong Kong Open: Kidambi Srikanth enters the quarter, HS Prannoy loses
HONG KONG: Kidambi Srikanth reached the quarterfinals for the first time in seven months, but it was a curtain for fellow Indian HS Prannoy with USD 400,000 Hong Kong Open here on thursday
Former world No. 1 Srikanth, who fell to 13th place in the last BWF rankings this week, won a 21-11 15-21 21-19 victory over fellow countryman Sourabh Verma in the second round of men's singles.
Srikanth had last reached the quarterfinals at the Singapore Open in April.
Guntur's pilot, who received a first-round goodbye from world number 1 Kento Momota of Japan, will face China's Olympic champion Chen Long next.
Previously, H S Prannoy suffered a 12-21 19-21 loss to the sixth Indonesian seed Jonatan Christie in the second round.
World champion P V Sindhu will face Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand, while Parupalli Kashyap will fight the second seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei later in the day.
