Nagaland: the son of the NSCN-U leader, the bride flaunts assault rifles at the wedding reception; archived case
GUWAHATI: They are investigating the violation of the basic ceasefire rules during the marriage ceremony of a son of a senior NSCN-U leader where the newly married couple posed for the camera brandishing automatic assault rifles.
“A case has been registered. We are doing the investigation and will take an accusation against the violation of the violation of the basic rules of the ceasefire, Dimapur police commissioner Rothihu Tetso told TOI.
The photograph of Bohoto Kiba's son, a kilo kilonser (Interior Minister) of NSCN-U, who is under a ceasefire agreement with the Center, and the bride posing with an M16 and AK 56 rifle at her wedding was made viral in WhatsApp groups. The couple married on November 9 at 5th Mile in Dimapur.
The NSCN-U was formed by separatist leaders of the NSCN-IM and NSCN-Khaplang and then declared the ceasefire. It is the largest group in the seven-member conglomerate called Naga National Political Group, with which the government is holding peace talks in addition to the NSCN-IM.
The basic ceasefire rules prohibit the team from any movement in uniform or with weapons outside the designated camps. Apart from this, displaying illegal weapons is prohibited under the Weapons Act of 1959.
