The death of Chennai techie Subashree: Madras High Court grants conditional bail to suspects

CHENNAI: On Monday, former AIADMK counselor C Jayagopal was awarded, who is the main suspect in the death of Chennai R Subashree. Jayagopal has been in judicial custody for the past 45 days.

Judge C V Karthikeyan granted relief on the condition that Jayagopal should remain in Madurai to avoid influencing witnesses.

The brother-in-law and co-defendant of Jayagopal in the case, Meganathan, was also granted the same relief.

On September 12, Subashree, who fell on the road after being hit by a fallen banner raised in connection with the marriage of Jayagopal's son, was fatally hit by a tanker truck.

The bail request, jointly moved by Jayagopal and Meganathan, said that the illegal cadres had been erected during the marriage of his son by the party cadre in love and affection and that they had no role in putting up the posters.

They also alleged that the police had mechanically added their names in the FIR with a hidden motive and wanted the court to extend them on bail.
