Maruti Suzuki India reduces production for the ninth consecutive month in October
NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) reported on Saturday a 20.70 percent decrease in its production numbers during the month of October. This is the ninth consecutive fall of the automaker in production figures. Maruti produced a total of 1.19,337 units in October compared to 1.50,497 units in the same period last year, the automaker said in a statement to the bags.
Sales of passenger or PV vehicles in October were 1.17,383 units, 20.85 percent less, compared with 1.48,318 units published in the same period last year, he added.
The production of mini and compact segment cars, including Alto, New WagonR, Celerio, Ignis, Swift, Baleno and Dzire, reached 85,064 units compared to 1,08,462 units in August last year, down 21.57 percent.
The Ciaz medium sedan saw its production reduced to 1,922 units in October from 3,513 units in the same month last year.
Production of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle was also reduced to 1,954 units last month from 2,179 units in October 2018, according to the document.
Although, the production of utility vehicles such as Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, XL-6 and S-Cross increased 0.93 percent to 22,736 compared to 22,526 units in the month of the previous year.
In October, the automaker had reduced its production by 17.84 percent to 1.32,199 units.
Maruti took full advantage of the holiday season, recording its first growth in sales of domestic passenger vehicles after seven months in October.
The largest automaker in the country had registered a growth of 4.5 percent in its national wholesale sales by 1.44,277 units in October compared to 1.38,100 units in the same period last year.
