Watford finally wins after sinking mediocre Norwich City

NORUICHO Watford they enjoyed their first Premier league victory of the season as goals of Gerard Deulofeu and substitute Andre Gray gave them a 2-0 victory in Norwich City in a game at the bottom of the table on Friday.

The result lifted Watford two places to 18th on eight points from 12 games while promoted Norwich, who last won in September when they upset champions Manchester City 3-2 at Carrow Road, dropped to the foot of the table on seven points.

Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores acknowledged the early goal was crucial and praised the London club's long-suffering fans for their unwavering support.

He scores early and the team becomes stronger and stronger, he told Sky Sports. I think for us the first feeling is that it is something special for fans. We wanted to dedicate it to fans because they have supported for a long time.

Guardian Ben Foster added about the drought of victory: It's been a while, about six months, it's ridiculous. You can only say that it will arrive and we are very happy that it happened tonight.

Deulofeu dismissed the visitors with a second-minute lead when he stole the midline ball from Emiliano Bouendia, cut into a defender and fired a crunchy low shot past Tim Krul.

Gray, who replaced the injured Roberto Pereyra in the half-hour mark, had a blocked shot in the 33rd minute before Bouendia launched his high and wide effort at the other end.

Spaniard Deulofeu then turned provider in the 52nd when he got a cross in at the second attempt and Gray's deflected back-heel beat Krul at the near post to double Watford's advantage.

The visitors caused defender Christian Kabasele to be sent in the middle of the second half for a second reserve, but he still seemed dangerous on the break since Norwich could not create opportunities.

Norwich's German manager, Daniel Farke, was furious with the careless approach and lack of focus of his team.

If you start such an important game with a nursery mistake, that doesn't help confidence or mood, he said.

We are disappointed, upset. We are playing in the best league in the world and you cannot make these mistakes.
