Kone India establishes new facilities near Chennai
CHENNAI: manufacturer of elevators and escalators Kone India has established a new plant in SIPCOT , Pillaipakkam , near Chennai, with an investment of Rs 450 million rupees that would manufacture elevators.
The plant would have an expandable capacity as per the demand and would cater to domestic and export market, Kone India MD Amit Gossain said.
With an extension of 50,000 square meters, the new plant would be the only manufacturing unit in India and the existing unit in Pune would be closed, said Henrik Ehrnrooth, president and CEO of Kone Corporation.
The unit is also the seventh global manufacturing facility. While most of the elevators would be supplied to the Indian market, we are also considering exporting to neighboring countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, he added.
The inauguration of Tuesday was attended by the governor of Tamil Nadu, Banwarilal Purohit, and the Minister of Industry, MC Sampath.
