The explosion shakes the Bahal of Thangal of Imphal; 5 police officers, 1 civilian injured

IMPHAL: Five police officers, including the additional Imphal SP, and a civilian were injured in an explosion in the high security area on the Khoyathong road on Tuesday morning.

The explosion occurred near Shani Temple at 9.22 a.m., after which police cordoned off the entire area. Wounded police officers include Lamabam Amarjit, Langthabal's additional SP, Deputy Inspector Thongam Devan, ASI Ningthoujam Ibotomba Singh, ASI Khuraijam Boney and Rifleman Huirongbam Boboy. A civilian named Krishna Gurung of Pangei Nepali Basti was also injured in the explosion.

According to initial reports, the bomb was suspected to be an IED, police sources said.

The injured were taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Prime Minister N Biren Singh visited the wounded in the hospital.

The explosion occurs three days after a similar incident at a Chhath Puja location in Telipati on Saturday in which three BSF jawans were injured.
