The United States sanctions 9 people, an entity linked to the top leader in Iran
WASHINGTON: The United States imposed sanctions on nine people linked to the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei , including his chief of staff, one of his sons and the head of the judiciary in Iran, the US Treasury Department said Monday. The United States also sanctioned the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran, the department said in the statement, which occurred 40 years later. I ran he confiscated the U.S. embassy in Tehran , taking more than 50 Americans hostage.
"Today the treasury department is targeting the unelected officials who surround I ran 's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and implement his destabilising policies," US treasury secretary said in a statement. "These individuals are linked to a wide range of malign behaviours by the regime, including bombings of the US marine barracks in Beirut in 1983 and the Argentine Mutual Israel Association in 1994, as well as torture, extrajudicial executions and repression of civilians, Mnuchin added.
