GUWAHATI: Gauhati HC accepted a proposal to provide the services of a private secretary and a pawn along with a vehicle with a driver to CJI after he retired on November 17. The proposal had come from the protocol committee of the higher court as a courtesy institution 'towards the CJI, which was an advocate there long before it was elevated to the highest office of the judiciary.
The CJI has said that it intends to return to Guwahati after his retirement and settle there. CJI Gogoi graduated in history from St Stephen’s College, Delhi, Gogoi obtained his law degree from the University of Delhi. He was appointed permanent judge of the superior court of Gauhati in 2001, after which he was transferred to in 2010, where he became president of the court in 2011.
He was appointed SC judge in 2012. On October 3, 2018, he succeeded as CJI.
