Sensex rises 137 points to finish at 40,302; Nifty ends at 11,945

NEW DELHI: Equity indexes closed higher on Monday, helped by the government's plan to offer more fiscal reforms and more capital to finance the country's infrastructure needs.

Reference point BSE sensex increased 136.93 points or 0.34 percent to finish at 40,301.96. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty won 54.55 points or 0.46% to finish at 11,945.15.

Actions have been steadily increasing in recent sessions, driven by positive global signals, a solid set of corporate results and expectations for a better third quarter.

Metal stocks were the ones that earned the most, with the Nifty subscript increasing 3.14%. Meanwhile, the Nifty state bank index rose 0.7%.

Shares of Bharti Infratel Ltd rose to 7.48%. The action closed up to 6.20% and was the best winner in the Nifty.

Zee Entertainment was the main loser with a fall of 4.33%.
