The cabinet secretary reviews the preparation before the fall of Cyclone Maha
NEW DELHI: On Monday, a meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) was held, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary to review the preparation before the expected cyclone, and Daman&Diu.
The cabinet secretary took stock of the current situation and preparedness for rescue and relief operations and ordered immediate assistance, as needed.
IMD reported that the cyclone, currently on the east center, is moving west and northwest and is likely to continue until November 5 in the morning. Subsequently, it will weaken and cross the coast of Gujarat and Maharashtra before midnight on November 6 and early in the morning of November 7, 2019. Heavy rains are expected, accompanied by winds that reach up to 90-100 kmph and tidal waves up to 1.5 meters.
The chief secretary of Gujarat and Maharashtra reported that they and the NDRF teams, SDRF, along with the Coast Guard and naval ships had already positioned themselves. District authorities have been placed on alert and all fishing activities have been suspended. Daman and Diu The administration also learned of its preparation and evacuation plans.
Senior officials of the Ministries of Housing, Defense, as well as those of IMD, NDMA and NDRF attended the meeting. The principal secretaries of Gujarat and Maharashtra together with officials of the UT Administration participated in the meeting.
