Delhi HC deferred the declaration of bail of Chidambaram due to the strike of lawyers
NEW DELHI: On Monday, November 6 postponed the hearing on the regular bail statement filed by the former finance minister of Union P regarding the money laundering case of INX Media after the bar association of The court decided to refrain from work.
The Delhi High Court Bar Association made the decision to show solidarity with lawyers who were injured during their clashes with the judicial complex on Saturday.
The Chidambaram bail request, which is currently under judicial custody in, was scheduled to be heard today.
The ED, which is investigating money laundering charges against him, arrested Chidambaram on October 16 and secured his custody in a special court. Subsequently, he was sent to judicial custody until November 13.
After submitting the declaration of release on regular bail, the agency objected by stating that it used the country's high office for personal gain.
The proceeds of crime were generated in the act carried out by P Chidambaram in his capacity as Minister of Finance. Considering the seriousness of the crimes against him, bail should not be granted, the agency said.
The ED said that the granting of bail by the court would go against its zero tolerance policy against corruption and set an incorrect precedent for corruption cases.
However, the Supreme Court granted Chidambaram bail on October 22 in the case of corruption of INX Media that was being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The case refers to an FIR registered by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the authorization (FIPB) granted to INX Media for the sum of Rs 305 million rupees in 2007 by Chidambaram when he was the Minister of Finance. Subsequently, the (ED) registered a case.
