Donald Trump invites ASEAN leaders to meet with the United States after jumping the summit

NONTHABURI, THAILAND: President Donald Trump He invited Southeast Asian leaders to a special summit in the United States early next year after skipping their annual summit.

Robert O'Brien, the national security adviser Trump sent in his place, included the invitation in a letter from Trump that he read on Monday outside the summit of the Association of 10 nations of Southeast Asian nations on the outskirts of The capital of Thailand.

Presidents or prime ministers would normally attend that meeting. But as O'Brien is not even a member of Trump's cabinet, seven of the 10 Asean Instead, countries sent their foreign ministers in what appeared to be an adhesion to the diplomatic protocol.

O'Brien made a swipe at China, accusing it of intimidating Asean members.
