Ahmedabad: Citizen pursues mobile 'chor' in autorickshaw, filmi style
AHMEDABAD: A 26-year-old boy chased a man who stole his mobile phone on Thursday of last week.
While he was unable to retrieve his phone and the thieves managed to escape, the city police appreciated his courage.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Ashish Bhatia on Sunday gave Santosh Kumar Das a certificate of thanks for his courage in fighting thieves.
Police authorities said Santosh Kumar Das, the plaintiff, was walking along Bodakdev's road talking on the phone at about a quarter past one, when a man leaned out of a running car and snatched the phone. Das jumped into the car and grabbed the direction to stop the vehicle, even when it rained with punches and kicks with those in the car.
With Das fighting vigorously, the car became a turtle. Das suffered serious hand injuries and was hospitalized for treatment.
Vastrapur Manoharsinh Jadeja police station inspector said that according to the authorickshaw registration number, thieves will be tracked and arrested soon. “We definitely won't let Das's fight be in vain. We will make sure he gets his back, ”said Jadeja.
Das, who works as a catering staff provider at a local company, has suffered serious arm injuries due to the dispute between him and two mobile thieves.
“Das showed exemplary guts and courage when facing mobile thieves. We appreciate it to give a message to the general public to be brave in such situations, ”said Bhatia.
