Former TOI editor Gautam Adhikari dies

Journalist and veteran academic died in DC on Sunday. Adhikari, 69, was recently diagnosed with Cancer .

Adhikari partnered with TOI as executive editor, editorial page editor and Washington correspondent. He also served as dean of the Times School of Journalism. In 2005, Adhikari was also the first editor in Mumbai. In addition to his career as a journalist, Adhikari was a principal investigator in the Center for American Progress in Washington DC

His other duties included being a fellow resident and teacher at the Shorenstein Press/Policy Center in Harvard University , member of George Washington University and visiting member of the American Enterprise Institute in Washington.

He also served the World Bank as a principal consultant in addition to being Project Director of the World Movement for Democracy and the Asian Center for Democratic Governance.

Among the books that Adhikari wrote are 'The intolerant Indian: why we should rediscover a liberal space' and a collection of his writings in TOI over three decades entitled 'Rolling Stones'.
