Sensational Lakshya Sen claims the title of the SaarLorlux Open
SAARBRUCKEN (Germany): India Lakshya Sen pocketed his second successive BWF World Tour Super 100 title with an exciting victory over China Weng Hong Yang in an exciting final in the SaarLorLux Open on Sunday.
Lakshya, planted eighth, needed 59 minutes to beat Weng 17-21, 21-18, 21-16 in the summit clash for his third consecutive singles title of the season.
He had closed the Belgian international challenge and Dutch Open Super Tour 100 in his last two outings. He had also reached the final of the Polish Open this year.
The 51st in the world, Sen, who won the Asian youth championship, a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games and a bronze at the World Youth Championship last year, continues to impress on the senior circuit.
The 18-year-old Uttarakhand player reached the final with a 1-2 record against the Chinese, but it didn't matter, since he recovered after wasting the first game to complete an exciting victory here.
After this victory, Lakshya is ready to enter the top 50 when BWF rankings are released on Tuesday.
Lakshya had a good start, as he led 14-11, but could not stand the pressure on his opponent, who changed the tables to win the opening game.
Chopped by the reversal, Lakshya jumped to an 8-4 lead in the second game. The Indian moved quickly to 13-6. Weng reduced it to 10-14, but Lakshya managed to stay ahead of his rival and take the game to the decisive.
In the third game, Lakshya fell behind 5-7 but managed to recover 10-10 before Weng moved to a 16-13 lead.
A Lakshya fight then stepped on the accelerator and released the remaining eight points to leave his opponent stranded.
Lakshya is likely to participate in two International Challenge events, the Irish Open (November 13-16) and the Scottish Open (November 21-24), before performing at the Syed Modi International Super 300 (November 26 to 1 from December).
