Cyclonic storm Maha will land in Gujarat on November 6: IMD

AHMEDABAD: The severe cyclonic storm Maha will probably land along the coast between Diu and the night of November 6 and will cause heavy rains until the next day, he said Sunday.

It is likely to become a very severe cyclonic storm in the next six hours before touching the ground, he added.

The severe cyclonic storm Maha lay centered 580 kilometers southwest of Diu and 550 kilometers southwest of Veraval. It is more likely to intensify in a very severe cyclonic storm and land between Dwarka and Diu on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning with wind speeds of 120 kilometers per hour, said IMD regional director Jayanta Sarkar.

The storm will cause heavy to heavy rains in Saurashtra and southern Gujarat from November 6 to 7. It is moving towards Oman, but will be repeated towards the coast of Gujarat on Monday, Sarkar said.

Authorities said the ports of Saurashtra were asked to hoist number two to warn ships and fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea.
