Sajan Bhanwal loses the bronze, Ravi goes into rejection in the U-23 World Wrestling Championship
BUDAPEST: three times medalist Sajan bhanwal (77 kg) lost a bronze in the Greco-Roman category but Ravi (97kg) reached the repechage round on U-23 Fight World championships here on Sunday.
Serkan Akkoyun of Turkey proved to be too strong for Bhanwal and won 10-1 for superiority in the bronze medal competition.
Ravi was blanked 8-0 by Georgian grappler Giorgi Melia in the pre-quarter-finals, but, with the latter making it to the final, the Indian was presented with another chance to fight for a medal.
Ravi now needs to win just one bout in repechage to enter the bronze medal play-off on the final day of the competition.
Among other results of the day, Arjun Halakurki lost his 55 kg repechage between 2-10 against Norayr Hakhoyan of Armenia.
At 87 kg, Sunil Kumar raised hopes for a bronze when he emerged victorious 5-3 in his first rejection match against Aleksandar Georgije Stjepanetic of Sweden. However, his hopes vanished in the second rejection fight when Croatian Ivan Huklek beat him 6-3.
None of the other Indians could win a round. In the 60 kg qualifiers, Sachin Rana showed up with the 5-2 victory of the Chinese Liguo Cao, while Rahul was defeated 0-8 by the Russian Magomed Yarbilov in the same 72 kg round.
Neeraj also failed to cause any impact when he fell 1-10 to Serbian Branko Kovacevic in the qualifying fight at 82 kg.
Ravi nder (67kg) started his campaign from the pre-quarter-finals but could not overcome the first hurdle as he was edged 2-1 by Haci Karakus of Turkey.
