After the suicide of Kamalchand Gwal, the local BJP had organized a protest, claiming that the farmer had been in debt and was disturbed because he had not received compensation for the loss of his crop in the floods. However, an investigation by the administration showed that it had sold about 6 acres in the last two years.

On November 1, his family mentioned two names: Pehelwan aka Yadav, a local BJP leader, and another villager. Kamalchand's son, Dhanraj, said his father had received phone calls before committing suicide. He said his father had sold some land to Karori and Bhagwandas, but that the family had never seen money in the house. I want justice for my mother and our land, she told local media. After his death, the local administration initiated an investigation and found the names of the Yadavs mentioned in the land documents.

Karori Yadav, the mandal president, denied the accusations. I bought 1.37 acres of their land 3-4 years ago and paid Rs 22 lakh, some in cash and the rest through a check, he told TOI. Agriculture Minister Sachin Yadav told TOI: We will investigate the allegations thoroughly. Measures will be taken against anyone who is involved in it.
