Maha's problems for Gujarat: the cyclone will affect the state climate from November 6 to 8

AHMEDABAD: After the result was rain in several places during Gujarat, another will bring rain to the state next week. Officials from the Department of Meteorology of India (IMD) said the strong cyclonic storm would bring heavy rains to various parts of the state along with strong winds from November 6 to 8.

It is the third cyclone this monsoon for Gujarat and the west coast of India, an unusual phenomenon for, said Met department officials. At the beginning of the season, the very severe cyclonic storm Vayu developed at sea, which did not reach land. Kyarr, considered a super cyclone, skirted the state and headed in the direction of Oman recently, while Maha is now near the coast of Maharashtra. It is also the rare case of two simultaneous cyclones in the northern Arabian Sea, experts said.

Jayanta Sarkar, IMD regional director, said Maha is a severe cyclonic storm right now. It is located on the center-east of the Arabian Sea. For the next five days, I would be far from Gujarat. But on November 6 in the morning onwards, it would curve again towards the state. Between the morning of November 6 and 7, it would be southwest of the Veraval coast, either as a severe cyclonic or cyclonic storm, he said.

He added that it would create high wind speeds on the coast of Gujarat, which would exceed 60-70 km/h and increase over time. On November 7, we can expect heavy rains in southern, central-eastern parts of Gujarat and Saurashtra. From the afternoon of November 8, things can return to normal, said Sarkar.

IMD officials said the cyclone's course would be clearer in a couple of days, which would help them predict whether the cyclone is likely to land on the state's coast.

Non-seasonal rains have caused the loss of crops for farmers in many parts of Gujarat. State government officials called a meeting with insurance companies on Friday to address the issue of crop insurance. Experts said the failure of the crop could result in high prices for several crops. They added that it is one of the longest rainy seasons in the state.
