Cyclone Maha is likely to bring heavy rains south of Gujarat from November 6
AHMEDABAD: It is likely that the severe cyclonic storm 'Maha' will cause heavy rains in the southern parts of November 6, he said Friday.
Maha has become a severe cyclonic storm and focuses on the center-east near Lakshadweep Islands, said a statement from the Meteorological Center here.
Maha is likely to move north-west in the next 24 hours and then west-northwest during November 2 and 4 and intensify in a very severe cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours, he said.
On November 6 onwards, it would take a new curve east-northeast towards the south coast of Gujarat. We expect it to bring heavy rains in the southern region of Gujarat, including the Saurashtra coastal belt, said the director of the Jayanta Sarkar Meteorological Center.
The IMD has not made any specific prediction about the possible landing of the cyclone.
The statement says that the cyclone can bring mild to moderate rains in southern Gujarat for the next 24 hours.
Several parts of Gujarat were hit by non-seasonal rain in recent days due to Cyclone Kyarr, which has now weakened and moved towards Oman .
