Prime Minister Modi holds talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday he held talks with the visiting German chancellor Angela Merkel here.

Merkel is in New Delhi to participate in the fifth India-Germany intergovernmental consultation (IGC). Early in the day, he was given a ceremonial welcome at him and was received by PM Modi.

Modi and Merkel will exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. Both leaders will have a separate commitment to the CEOs and business leaders of both countries, the MEA said in a statement.

The German chancellor is also expected to meet with the president during the visit. He will also visit Gandhi Smriti.

Merkel is also scheduled to interact with Indian women leaders and go to a business forum.

On Saturday, Merkel will visit the facilities of Continental Automotive Components India Pvt Ltd at IMT Manesar in Gurgaon. You will also visit a subway station in the Dwarka area.

India and Germany have established a strategic partnership characterized by a high degree of trust and mutual understanding. The two leaders have regularly interacted outside the multilateral meetings. Germany is a leading commercial and investment partner.

In September, Merkel had met Modi on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly In New York. The two leaders maintained wide-ranging dialogues on various topics. In April of last year, Modi made a brief stopover in Berlin and met with Merkel after his visit to Sweden and Britain.

On Sunday, Merkel had reported that the focus of his talks with Modi would be on economic and commercial relations, climate protection and sustainable development, among other areas.
