Ramkumar Ramamoorthy appointed Cognizant India President and MD
New Delhi, September 17 () Cognizant, based in the United States, said Tuesday that it has raised Ramkumar Ramamoorthy as president and chief executive officer of its operations in India.
Ramamoorthy, who has worked with the company for more than two decades, will report directly to the Cognizant Executive Committee.
In an email to employees, Cognizant CEO Brian Humphries said Ramamoorthy had played a leading role in the development of many of the company's portfolios based in India.
These include areas such as marketing and communications, market research and intelligence, public affairs and knowledge management, he said.
Ramamoorthy, as Executive Director of Cognizant India, also spearheaded the work for Cognizant Foundation and Cognizant Outreach.
Before joining Cognizant, he worked with Tata Consultancy Services. Before that, he was a professor at two top-level universities in India and went on to work as a director at one of them.
By qualifying its operations in India as a jewel and a precious asset, Humphries said the country is a center of its global delivery, solutions and innovation.
We are fortunate to have many talented and committed colleagues in India, more than 2,000,000 in total, who stand out for serving our clients, he said.
At the end of the June quarter of 2019, the company had said that its global workforce was approximately 288,200 people.
Humphries said in the coming weeks that Ramamoorthy will establish a management committee and an operating committee for India.
These committees will help us further strengthen our operations in the country, proactively advance our agenda as we interact with the media and the government, drive greater diversity and inclusion throughout our organization ... and work to accelerate Cognizant's top line growth, he added.
Ramamoorthy said that India has played a key role in Cognizant's growth history from USD 2 million to USD 16 billion in revenue. It is a privilege and honor to lead Cognizant's operations in India to our next level of growth and innovation, driven by digital opportunity, he said. SR ANS ANS
