Cognizant appoints Ramkumar Ramamoorthy as CMD of Indian operations

NEW DELHI: Important IT Competent has designated Ramkumar Ramamoorthy , currently the executive director, as chairman and managing director of Competent India.

The company has fallen back into the CTS veteran to lead the operations of India at a time when the company is involved in a series of legal problems in India with tax and other authorities and seeks to return to the growth trajectory.

Ramamoorthy, who was previously senior vice president of corporate marketing, corporate affairs and communications, has been with the company for more than two decades and was appointed chief operating officer of India in 2017 in a specially created position.

Earlier on Tuesday, Competent CEO Brian Humphries sent out a note to the employees noting that he has developed a deep appreciation "for the jewel that is Competent India," and counts it as a "hub of our global delivery, solutioning, and innovation."

"With that in mind, I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Ramkumar Ramamoorthy to Chairman and Managing Director, Competent India, reporting directly to the company’s Executive Committee," Humphries added in the note.

Ramamoorthy, in his more than 21 years with the company, has developed many portfolios based in India that include Marketing and Communications, Market Research and Intelligence, Public Affairs and Knowledge Management.

He also spearheaded Competent 's corporate social responsibility through his work at Competent Foundation and Competent Outreach, the company added.

Humphries also said that all his work in the country has made him a famililar external face in Competent 's India circles among various stakeholder groups.

Ramkumar has worked closely with a variety of stakeholders, not only associates, clients and partners, but also investors, industry analysts, journalists, diplomats, politicians and educational leaders, he said.

In the weeks ahead, Ramamoorthy is expected to establish both a Management Committee and an Operating Committee for India, which will help Competent strengthen operations in the country.

"India has played a key role in Competent ’s growth story from $2 million to $16 billion in revenue. It’s both a privilege and an honor to lead Competent ’s India operations to our next level of growth and innovation, driven by the digital opportunity," Ramamoorthy said in a statement to TOI.

"I am particularly proud of the role that Competent has played in shaping talent from educational institutions and molding them into business professionals, driving high-quality employment, embracing diversity and inclusion, and setting benchmarks in employee volunteerism in India," Ramamoorthy added.

As our new Chief of Operations in India, Ramkumar will have all the country's location chiefs and corporate function leaders as dotted line reports, Humphries said in the note to the employees.

The global CEO has two scheduled visits to India in the next three months and expects the Executive Committee to make continuous visits to India.

"I look forward to working more closely with Ramkumar and ensuring that Competent ’s standing is positioned appropriately in all circles as we reestablish our company’s momentum," he said.
