Abhimanyu's ton puts India Red in command in the Duleep final
BENGALURU: first Bengal match Abhimanyu Easwaran (102 batting) hit an excellent ton to put India Red in a strong position on the second day of the Duleep Trophy final against India Green on Thursday.
India Red had 175 of 2 in 52 overs at the close in response to 231 of India Green at 72.1 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The elegant right-hander Abhimanyu hit 11 four and two six in his stroke, which prepared the platform for India Red to take control of the procedures.
Abhimanyu was involved in an opening association of 87 races with the captain Priyank Panchal (33), during which the two played some beautiful shots.
India Red follows India Green for 56 races with eight first-entry wickets intact.
Karun Nair of Karnataka, who has been in a prolific form in the tournament so far, seemed to be in good contact before being marked by Markande by 20.
Himachal batter Ankit Kalsi (11 batting), who has a century to his name in the tournament, was giving company to Abhimanyu when the game ended on a stop-start day due to bad light.
Earlier, leggie Mayank Markande came to the rescue of India Green with the bat with a brave hit of 76 not out (121 balls). His latest 59-race wicket association with Ankit Rajpoot (30 of 39 balls) led India Green to a decent total. He later took the shutter of Karun Nair from India Red.
India Green staggered with 112 for 8 at one stage, but recovered excellently, thanks to Markande's ninth wicket post of 60 races with Tanveer ul-Haq and a half-century partnership with Rajpoot.
While 32-year-old Markande did not miss scoring opportunities, Haq defended himself resolutely. Later, Rajpoot added to the scoreboard with some attack shots.
Avesh Khan played well without much luck, and goalkeeper Ishan Kishan missed an opportunity offered by Markande in the first installment of the day. The resistance of Rajpoot is over.
India Green 1st Innings: 231 all out in 72.1 overs (Mayank Markande 76 not out, Ankit Rajpoot 30; Jaydev Unadkat 4/58, Sandeep Warrier 2/38, Avesh Khan 2/56)
India Red 1st Innings: 175 for 2 in 52 overs (Abhimanyu Easwaran 102 batting, Priyank Panchal 33; M Markande 1/24).
