Alibaba's UC web content platform plans online sales
NEW DELHI: Alibaba Group content platform UC website You are looking to start online sales through a list of e-commerce portal offers with plans to launch your own platform in the coming years.
Alibaba group is already a major player in the online sales space through Paytm and the UC website foray will be a direct initiative in the area.
UC website Global Business VP Huaiyuan Yang said retail "is in our DNA", and it may begin online services through listing of deals sourced from Paytm and even Amazon. "There are opportunities for transactions on the UC platform, and we intend to do that soon."
UC website is a popular browser and has 13 crore monthly active users in India.
Yang said that the company's planned foray in e-commerce space, whenever it happens, will not have an adverse impact on Paytm, in which Alibaba owns 30% stake. Alibaba Group also owns 3% stake in Snapdeal .
On government's plans to mandate local storage of data within India, Yang said that UC website is ready to comply with the condition. "We are already storing a lot of our India data locally, and may do it fully if the government mandates it."
The company is also expanding its philanthropy initiative in India, as part of which it helps provide books to children, while creating content on women's empowerment.
