Manush will be presented again this month

Sohini Sengupta, director of the theater group, said there will be two consecutive shows of the play on September 28 and 29 at different auditoriums in the city.n Speaking about the response to Manush, Sohini said that after the previous shows, they have seen flooded with positive comments for his game. While for most people it is an extremely powerful and honest representation, some said the story touched their hearts, he said.

Manush was first staged during the 60th anniversary of Nandikar. Though the play has been directed by Sohini, it is based on Prafulla Roy’s eponymous story. Based on the original, the script has been developed by Saptarshi Maulik and Anindita Chakraborty. They have also played lead roles in the play. There is a total of 40 actors in the production. “It is a political story about expectations and reality,” said Sohini, adding that she has got exactly what she was expecting from the play.

Manush is a bilingual work, where the characters speak Hindi and Bengali. It is located on the border of Bihar-Bengal. The history of the work revolves around a village man, Bharosa Lal, who believes that the other side of the hill has all the solutions to his problems. When he crosses the hill, he faces reality, which does not match his expectations.
