The president of the Finance Commission meets with Harsimrat Badal, its key officials

New Delhi, September 4 () The president of the Finance Commission, N K Singh, held a meeting on Wednesday with the Minister of Food Processing, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and key officials of his ministry.

The commission felt it was of immediate value to complete the Ministry's 'Cold Chain Grid' project and the value-added infrastructure, which is now underway, an official statement said.

This network could facilitate the Seed Cold Chain Infrastructure from Farm to Fork and would require a grant of around Rs 10 crore per project. The commission considered that these are critically dependent on simultaneous reforms in the agricultural sector, long-term contract agriculture, abolition of APMC and the reduction of the annoying scope of other related regulations, he said.

The commission also thanked the Operation Green Ministry project, which is a development of the Integrated Value Chain of Tomato, Onion and Potato Crops (TOP) and price stabilization measures, he said. The 15th Finance Commission also sympathized with the ministry's suggestions that the wings of the Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) of the Ministry of trade should be under the ministry of food processing for better and effective management of agricultural and marine processed food exports, he added.
