EESL plans to establish charging stations for electric vehicles in Kolkata, New Town

Kolkata, on September 3 () State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), said Tuesday that it is in talks with the West Bengal government to establish an electric vehicle charging (EV) infrastructure in the metropolis and in the adjacent area of New Town.

The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA), the West Bengal Department of Transportation, the Department of Energy and the Department of Urban Development are involved in the installation of the proposed EV charging stations, authorities said.

We are planning 400 public charging stations for electric vehicles in the city and in New Town. Soon, an agreement with NKDA will be signed, said EESL regional chief Sudeep Bhar.

We require land for electric vehicle stations in viable locations. We have presented a proposal to carry out the capital expenditure and maintain the infrastructure for 10 years. There will be some revenue shared with the owner, he said.

A clear guideline for the cost of electricity at charging stations has not yet been developed, but talks are already underway, officials said.

EESL has also submitted a proposal to the state government to supply electric sedans for rent. There are two models we offer. One is 'dry lease' at Rs 22,500 per month for a period of 6 years, and the other is for drivers, which will be around Rs 37,000 per month, Bhar added. BSM RBT RBT
