ISSF World Cup: Apurvi-Deepak couple wins mixed gold, bronze rifle for Anjum-Divyansh

PUNE: After shining at the individual events, the Indian shooters continued their dominance as the pair of Apurvi Chandela & Deepak Kumar he won 10m gold mixed air rifle in the ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro on Monday.

The Apurvi-Deepak duo defeated China’s Qian Yang & Haonan Yu 16-6 in the gold medal match. Another Indian pair of Anjum Moudgil & Divyansh Panwar won the bronze-medal match by beating Hungarian duo of Eszter Meszaros & Peter Sidi 16-10.

Both teams fire simultaneously (each shooter one shot) in a round. The team with a better aggregate gets two points, while the other gets zero. In case of a tie, both teams get one point each. The first team to reach 16 points wins the match.

The Apurvi-Deepak couple won eight of the 11 single-shot duels to accumulate 16 points.


In the first rankings, where 40 teams participated, the Apurvi-Deepak duo had advanced with a combined score of 627.6, while the Anjum-Divyansh couple had advanced after shooting 626.8.

Each team fires 60 shots (30 each shooter) in qualification one. The top eight teams advance to the second round of the qualification, where each pair fires 40 shots (20 each shooter) for qualifying.

In the second qualification round, Apurvi & Deepak finished on top with 419.1 points. The top two teams fight for gold, while the third & fourth placed teams shoot for bronze. Anjum & Divyansh were fourth with 418.

The Chinese couple had shot 418.7 to take second place, while the Hungarian duo had shot 418.6.
