Elina Svitolina moves from Madison Keys to quarterfinals of the US Open
NEW YORK: fifth Ukrainian seed Elina Svitolina delivered a solid performance to beat the Americans Madison Keys 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday and secure a place in the United States Open quarter finals.
With Keys, who finished second in 2017, fighting backwards, Svitolina won 92 percent of his first service points and didn't face a single break point during the 75-minute crash under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
I am very happy to be able to play very consistently tonight and in such a great atmosphere it is very special, said Svitolina, who finished the game in style when it served to love.
With the win, Svitolina is the first Ukrainian woman to reach the United States Open quarterfinals since Kateryna Bondarenko in 2009.
The next step for Svitolina will be the British Johanna Konta, who bothered the third Czech seeder Karolina Pliskova on Sunday.
