Jasprit Bumrah bowler once in a generation: Yuvraj Singh
CHANDIGARH Yuvraj Singh , one of the best limited players in India, feels Jasprit Bumrah He is a special talent, like the one that emerges once in many, many years. TOI met Yuvraj for an exclusive interview at the Sector 16 stadium here, the arena where he honed his skills when he was young.
Bumrah is making waves in the West Indies at the moment. You have played with him. Your thoughts on the pacemaker ...
Bumrah is a class act. He is a type of bowler once in a generation. I faced him for the first time during a Ranji Trophy game against Gujarat at PCA Stadium in Mohali in 2013. I played a hostile four-hit spell on him and knew immediately that I was going to win a match for India in the test cricket. So, many people questioned if he could excel at Cricket test for his unique action But he has kept his critics silent with a fascinating performance in the last three years, that also in all formats. Currently, it is definitely above the rest.
You had a long career playing for India. Do you think this is the best rhythm attack that India has had?
You cannot compare the rhythm attacks of the past. Zak ( Zaheer Khan ) was there, he won us that famous Test series (2007-08) in England. In my view, it is unfair to compare cricketers from different eras. The present pace attack is definitely good in Cricket test . Shami and Bhuvi are there for a while now. Ishant has been there for a long time and there is the sheer brilliance of Bumrah. It is a very good Test bowling attack but I still believe that it has become difficult for the bowlers in ODI's and T20s.
It has been two and a half months since he called time in international cricket. What is life like after retirement?
Actually, I am enjoying it. I have played cricket for almost 20 years and it has given me everything, but honestly speaking, I am quite relaxed, now there is no pressure to act.
You have played the T20 league in Canada recently. Will you play in CPL and BBL in the future?
Nothing is planned yet. The leagues will be held in December and January, so there is time. But if I have the chance, I would love to play there too.
