NEW YORK: Roger Federer destroyed David Goffin 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 on Sunday to reach the United States Open quarterfinals and keep your bet alive for a 21st Grand Slam title that extends the record.
The third Swiss seed laid off 35 winners and 10 aces to fire the Belgian surpassed in 80 minutes on a sunny day in Arthur Ashe Stadium .
Federer, 38, was at his best when it mattered most, turning nine of his 10 break points to organize a meeting with Grigor Dimitrov or Alex de Minaur , who were playing their round of 16 game on the Tribune court.
The only drama came early when Goffin, seeded 15th, broke Federer to take a 2-1 lead in the first set, but the Swiss recovered in the next game and reached the finish line.
I am very happy with the level of play and the atmosphere, Federer said in an interview on the court.
