Jehan Daruvala climbs to 2nd place in the FIA F3 Championship
SPA (Belgium): young Indian pilot Jehan Daruvala He could not take full advantage of his pole position when he settled for third place in the sixth round of the FIA Formula 3 championship, but the podium's performance led him to number two in the race for the drivers' title.
Starting from his first position in the series, Jehan left the first corner but Pedro Piquet , son of the three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet, took advantage of the Indian slip to overcome it after Eau Rouge.
Jehan continued to lose ground and fell to fourth in the race, which is a support event for the Belgian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
The Indian pushed hard and was able to return to second place, behind Piquet. A virtual security car was declared and the moment of the call affected Jehan, which caused him to lose four seconds.
Later, the teammate of Jehan Prema, Robert Shwartzman He managed to use his DRS ( Drag Reduction System ) to drive around Jehan.
The Indian had to settle for third place, behind Shwartzman, while Piquet got his first victory in the FIA F3 Championship .
The starting order of race 2 is decided, race 1 results in the reverse order for the top 8. Jehan started sixth and had a good start, moving quickly to the fourth.
Two riders in front of him had an incident and one of the cars, while rejoining, arrived right in front of him. Jehan had to take off to avoid a collision, which allowed another runner to overtake him.
Jehan then regained a position and finally finished fifth. New Zealand's Marcus Armstrong won the race.
On the first lap of Race 1, I went through Eau Rouge a lot, so Piquet flew by before Les Combes. I was pretty sure I could stay with him, but the virtual security car came out in the last chicane and somehow I lost a lot of time. I knew that the boys behind me were going to have DRS and that it was going to be complicated. Third is not ideal, but not bad, said Jehan.
Jehan has risen to second place in third in the championship standings with 129 points behind teammate Shwartzman (152).
There are still two rounds left and the next race will be held together with the Italian Grand Prix.
