Maruti reports a 33% drop in August sales to 1.06,413 units

NEW DELHI: The country's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India, reported a 32.7 percent decrease in sales on Sunday to 1.06,413 units in August.

The company had sold 1.58,189 units in August last year, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said in a statement.

Domestic sales decreased by 34.3 percent to 97,061 units last month compared to 1.47,700 units in August 2018, he added.

Sales of mini cars comprising Alto and WagonR were 10,123 units compared to 35,895 units in the same month last year, 71.8 percent less.

Compact segment sales, including models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, fell 23.9 percent to 54,274 units compared to 71,364 cars in August last year.

The Ciaz medium sedan sold 1,596 units compared to the previous 7,002 units.

However, sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, increased 3.1 percent to 18,522 units compared to 17,971 in the month of the previous year, MSI said.

Exports in August decreased 10.8 percent to 9,352 units compared to 10,489 units in the corresponding month last year, the company said.
