National championships: swimmer Sajan Prakash wins 200m of combined gold, loses record
Kerala Sajan Prakash He collected his first gold from the 73rd Senior National Aquatic Championships that started in Bhopal on Saturday, winning the men's 200m combined event with a time of 2 minutes 05.89 seconds.
Possessing a national record at 2 minutes and 5.83 seconds, which he set in Thiruvananthapuram in the last edition, Prakash lost the opportunity to overcome his record mark by a mustache.
But the Inspector of the Circle with the Kerala Police can take comfort in the fact that he beat up the boy from the Indian swimming sign Shrihari Nataraj of Karnataka, who finished second (2: 06.46s) and his teammate Siva S (2: 06.69s) was third.
Sajan will perform at his favorite events: 100m butterfly on Tuesday and 200m butterfly on Wednesday.
My target is to achieve Olympic qualifying standard for 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. Medley was not at all a competitive event for me but a warm-up event, Sajan told TOI from Bhopal.
Sajan has already qualified for a 200 m butterfly, but it was only the 'B' standard.
I hope to qualify a standard A here, he added.
Meanwhile, Kerala's 4x200m freestyle relay team, consisting of Arjun Anesh K, Akash S, Arun M and Amal A, took 8: 46.12s to finish seventh in the final. In the 4x50m mixed mixed relay final, Kerala's team - Aaron J Thomas, Liyana Fathima Umer, Suneesh S, Greeshma P - finished eighth.
