Ranji Trophy: Vinay Kumar will be presented to Pondicherry

“There are very few cricketers in the country who boast of such an impeccable record in domestic circuit. We couldn’t have asked for a better player than Vinay since he has the experience of leading a top side and also winning the Ranji Trophy on multiple occasions,” an official from Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) told TOI.

The official added that Vinay's decision to move to Pondicherry became softer once she learned that Karnataka's former coach, J Arun Kumar, will be in charge of the issues. “Both Arun and Vinay clicked as coach and player respectively for Karnataka, as they enjoyed a golden race during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. It would be great if they could recreate that magic with Pondicherry as well, ”the official added.

Since his 2004-05 season debut for Karnataka, the 35-year-old has been a vital gear of the team. Vinay's constant performance on the domestic front earned her a place on the national side where she participated in 1 Test, 31 ODI and 9 T20.

The other players at the Pondicherry station include former Tamil Nadu player Arun Karthick and Paras Dogra, who previously attended Himachal Pradesh. The side, which will be captained by D Rohit, will be led by former West Indies Indian Alvin Kallicharran. Dishant Yagnik will be the assistant coach of the team.

Malolan back in TN fold: Allrounder R Malolan, who left Tamil Nadu to play for Uttarakhand last year, is eager to play for his team this season. Malolan expressed his desire to play for Tamil Nadu again and if things get in place, he could be part of the team, a source said.
