City artists celebrate Cancer Survivor Day
Every year, millions of people are affected by cancer. Also in India, the disease has witnessed an alarming and steady increase. And to raise awareness about the prevention and early detection of deadly disease, a city-based nonprofit organization that inspires and meets the needs of cancer survivors, organized a special cultural event on August 7.
The goal of the organization, formed by some renowned oncologists in the city, is to promote awareness about cancer in the community by providing easy access to information about the disease. They also aim to offer a better quality of treatment and a better quality of life to survivors, their families and friends.
The event featured performances by veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee , Riddhi Bandyopadhyay and Devajit Bandyopadhyay along with some cancer survivors. The curtain of the event was a choir, Aguner Poroshmoni , which was performed by cancer survivors. Everyone present applauded his performance.
This was followed by a dance drama, Songstress, directed by Devajit. Conceptualized by Riddhi, Songstress is a story that encompasses the lives of several iconic Bengali heroines such as Binodini, Angurbala, Indubala, Kanan Debi, Chaya Debi, Sushila Sundori and Keya Chakraborty, who created their own identity through song, dance and dance. performance. Production saw Soumitra Chatterjee and Chaitali Dasgupta in reading and narration. Riddhi gave up the songs for the act and Soumili Biswas , Devlina Kumar and Rubena Chatterjee performed the dance sequences. Everyone present showed their appreciation for the dance drama with a loud applause.
