Reliance Jio's 'first day-first show' service under its GigaFiber plan: Things to know

NEW DELHI: The long-awaited Jio GigaFiber, a combined broadband, fixed and television service, was launched at the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL). Jio GigaFiber broadband services will begin commercially starting September 5, 2019.

Addressing the shareholders, RIL President Mukesh Ambani said that Jio GigaFiber has so far received 15 million registrations for its Fiber home broadband service and aims to reach 20 million residences and 15 million establishments Commercial in 1,600 cities.

The Jio GigaFiber service will be included with subscriptions to most of the leading over-the-top (OTT) applications.

The 'Jio first-day-first-show' service will be available to 'Premium Jio Fiber' subscribers to watch movies from the comfort of their homes, the same day they are released, the company said in a statement. The service will be launched in mid-2020, he added.

With a price between Rs 700 and Rs 10,000 per month, the basic Jio Fiber plan will start at 100 Mbps and reach 1 Gbps. Subscribers will receive a digital decoder along with a fixed telephone connection, at no additional cost. Voice calls made to any Indian operator (mobile or landline) will be free forever. The plan also presents a package of unlimited international calls from Jio to the United States and Canada at 500 rupees per month.
