Hyundai Venue faces Brezza to become the best selling SUV

NEW DELHI: Maruti Brezza, the country's best-selling SUV, has been overtaken by the recently launched Hyundai Mini SUV.

The Venue was launched by Hyundai in May of this year, and has had a quick start, registering reserves of more than 50,000 units. Deliveries made so far are close to 20,000 units. According to the numbers accessed by TOI, the place sold 9,585 units in July against the 5,302 units registered by Brezza. The Mahindra XUV300, another new SUV of less than 4 meters that will reach the markets, registered sales of 4,464 units in the month.

Maruti did not respond to a questionnaire sent by email on the matter on Thursday. Calls made to a spokesperson were also not answered. The Brezza, launched in March 2016 with only 1,300 cc. Diesel engine option, had taken the leading position in the SUV market and sold 1.48 lakh units in 2017-18, and 1.57 lakh units in 2018-19.

However, as the larger market is moving away from diesel, and Maruti has also announced its departure from the category, the model has been under pressure. “We had developed the place with India as the leading market.
