India vs West Indies: raw talent Navdeep Saini has a bright future, says Virat Kohli

LAUDERHILL (USA): Captain virat Kohli on Saturday described fast bowler Navdeep Saini as a raw talent who has a bright future after he made an impressive debut in India in the victory of four wicket West Indies in the first international T20 here.

The 26-year-old Saini claimed three wickets for 17 runs to help India restrict the West Indies to 95/9 after being put in to bat. India then chased down the target with 2.4 overs to spare.

Navdeep has come a long way. He also plays the IPL and had a great season, Kohli said at the post-game presentation ceremony.

He is a raw talent, he has a rough rhythm. It is one of those that can launch 150 clicks (kmph). There is hardly anyone who plays at that rate, and is fit. He is someone who can build a name for himself and is hungry too. Hopefully, he will build from here, he added.

Kohli admitted that at his side he would have loved to pursue the objective in a better way, but said that the wicket made it difficult.

Our bowling and fields were up to par, but the field was not excellent. With the rain, you couldn't do much. They did well to start the game on time.

Bowlers were at the top, the variations were excellent. We would have liked to chase him with four demolitions, but we wanted to take a chance and put the marker in motion. As the ball got older, the rotation of strokes became key, said the Indian captain said.

When asked about the second T20I that will be played on Sunday in the same place, Kohli said: It's about achieving solid performance and ensuring that the boys who play contribute in one way or another.

West Indies captain Carlos Brathwaite said his side did not assess the conditions well. He praised Keiron Pollard, who top-scored with a 49 to take West Indies near the 100-run mark.

Congratulations to Kieron upon returning to the team. He showed his experience. If we had done 130, it would have been a different game. We got out of the game, he added.

We have to play positively. The message will remain the intention, but we need to have a better selection of shots and awareness. The four overs of Sunil Narine are very important. He showed his experience and brought us back to the game. It was a great bowling effort.
