Calcutta: a 17-year-old receives a 20-year prison for rape.

KOLKATA: On Tuesday, the district and session judge, the first court, Sealdah, and the special judge under the 2012 Law Jimut Bahan Biswas, sentenced a 17-year-old boy for the rape of a 16-year-old neighbor.

The youngest girl became pregnant thereafter and a complaint was filed at the Ultadanga police station on March 3, 2019.

The court also ordered the young people to pay 200,000 rupees as a fine, 90% of which will go to the girl. The state will also pay compensation of Rs 500,000 to it. The judge also detained the investigating officer (IO) of the case for poor quality work. If the court and Special Prosecutor Vivek Sharma did not have all the details, it is possible that the young man was accused only of penetrating sexual assault (Article 4 of the POCSO Act) and has left with a lower sentence. Instead, he was charged with aggravated sexual assault (section 6 of the POCSO Act).

The judge ordered that a copy of the order be sent to the CP JT (Crime) of the Kolkata Police so that he can take note of the poor quality investigation conducted by the investigating officer.
