In 2014, the security approval would take 104 days; it's 60 days now: MHA

NEW DELHI: The Interior Ministry told Lok Sabha on Tuesday that the simplification of the framework had reduced the average time required for clearance to 60 days in 2019 from 104 days in 2014.

The junior minister for the home, G Kishan Reddy, in response to a written question, said that the home ministry had simplified the framework for security clearance, which resulted in a simpler and more efficient process.

The Ministry reviewed the guidelines on national security authorization on June 25, 2018, where the security parameters were explicitly defined and the formats for the reports were standardized.

Other measures taken were the prescription formats for the security authorization; development of an online portal to submit security authorization requests; use the facilitation portal for foreign investment applications in the government approval route; weekly meetings of the officers' committee led by a special secretary to consider security clearance in sensitive sectors; and monthly coordination meetings with and security agencies to review and monitor the pending proposals.
